The School is 10 mins walk from the [HMS] “Cochrane”, and the course started with a lecture at 0900. Lectures covered prevention & fighting of various types of fires and equipment supplied to the service. We practiced putting out oil fires with water spray and foam extinguishers. The afternoon was spent playing about with hoses & branches in a smokefilled room, & that ended the one day preliminary course, which was attended by upwards of 40 officers & ratings.
